Outback Camel Rides: Where to Go

The best places to ride a camel in the Australian outback, with prices and tips.

Why camels?

Camels were brought to Australia in the 1800s to carry supplies through the interior, often with Afghan and Indian cameleers. Today Australia has the world's largest population of wild camels, and camel rides are one of the best ways to experience the desert.

Where to ride

  • Uluru: sunrise and sunset camel rides with Uluru on the horizon, from about $159–$165 per adult.
  • Alice Springs: rides and camel farm visits close to town.
  • Kings Canyon: short rides at Kings Creek Station.
  • Broome: sunset camel rides along Cable Beach (not outback, but iconic).

Tips

  • Wear long pants — it makes the ride more comfortable.
  • Most operators have minimum age and weight limits.
  • Sunset rides at Uluru often include drinks and snacks.

Prices in AUD, checked October 2026. Always confirm current rates and conditions with operators and park authorities before you travel.
